These testicular varicose veins are called as varicoceles which can lead to several other problems. However one should know about such diseases and should aware of what to do when it occurs. Here in this articles, you would get to know about varicocele, its symptoms, treatment and many more.

What is a Varicocele?

Testicles is hold by scrotum which is a skin covered sac. It consists arteries and veins which delivers blood to reproductive glands. This vein defect in scrotum may result in varicocele. This is defined as an enlargement of veins within scrotum. It occurs in the scrotum and is almost similar to varicose veins which comes in the legs. Due to this, sperm production is decreased and its quality is also faded and this can somewhere result to infertility where the testicles also gets shrink. Though men don’t know much about varicocele but it is common and can be found in 15 percent of male population. It can affect teenage boys and form at the time of puberty and mostly seen on the left side of scrotum. The structure of scrotum is not the same on each side so this condition can occur on both sides but it is seen very rare. In fact all varicoceles don’t affect sperm production.

How Varicocele Develop?

It is believed that varicoceles is caused by defective valves in veins within scrotum which is just above the testicles. These valves are known to control blood flow to and from testicles. But when normal blood flow stops then blood backups and veins gets enlarged. It happens mostly at the time of puberty when testicles are on a growth and requires much blood. It is seen that around 85 percent occurs in left testicle area. Due to the condition, blood circulation becomes poor which results in high blood temperature, increasing the temperature of testes and this works as a blockade in sperm production and completely destroy the sperm which is created. However still now there is no clear statement about development of varicocele. It develops slowly over time and seen between the ages of 15 to 25.

Symptoms of a Varicocele

You may not notice any symptoms of varicocele but can experience some changes like:

  • Swelling in scrotum
  • Periodic pain on scrotum
  • Bulge on one of the testicles
  • Enlarged or twisted veins in scrotum and is often described as bag of worms

Some other problems are described

Fertility problems– Varicoceles and infertility is linked somewhere because decreased motility of sperm, reduced sperm count and increasing deformed sperm are all linked to this condition. It blocks the veins around testes and is believed that it causes infertility by increasing the temperature in scrotum and decrease in sperm production.

Pain– This is for every men who feel pain in their testicles while sitting for longer time or at the time of exercising then it is a sign of varicoceles. Painful varicoceles are noticeable in size and if it is not cured on time then it can lead to infertility.

Testicular atrophy– If your testicles are shrinking then it is also considered as suffering from such condition but if it is cured then it can return to its normal size.

However all these are the signs of occurring varicocles but if these symptoms are not seen but experiencing such types of signs then it can be cleared by noninvasive tests like ultrasound.
